Cookie Nirvana

As a child I dreamed of being an adult, when I could eat cookies whenever I wanted…

As I mentioned once before, Allie makes the best cookies in the world.  Remember when cupcakes became the big thing and people raving about this or that cupcake bakery?  Well, someday when cookies are the kitschy new thing again, I imagine Allie being the cookie goddess who schools us all.

That said, I decided I’d treat us tonight with relatively healthy cookies for dinner.  I promise you, I am a pretty good mom, and I don’t always allow my kids to eat things like that for dinner, but this week has been a little tiring, the kids are missing their dad (away for work), and every dinner I’ve put in front of them for the last few nights went uneaten.  Allie posted the recipe for Cookie Robots, which are cookies with oatmeal, chocolate and dried fruit.  These ingredients are pretty healthy as far as cookies go, so what the hell, they ate a good lunch.

Normally I’m not a huge fan of any homemade cookie besides chocolate chip, but these are incredible.  The little bit of cinnamon in them makes the kitchen smell happy. They have the perfect gooey/crisp ratio, and they have an awesome, sweet/salty buttery-ness.  So good. They should be renamed PMS Cookies.  Plus, the tartness of the fruit (I used dried cherries) was nice, it broke up the richness so I didn’t feel sick to my stomach like I normally do after gorging myself on cookies.  The kids loved them, we are happy tonight.

Interestingly enough, after they ate their cookies, the kids asked for kosher dills and apples.  Go figure.

Wanna come over for dinner?
